Kitchen Genie ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and web services (the "Service"). By using Kitchen Genie, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and any name you provide. If you sign up via Google, we receive the basic profile information (name and email) authorized by your Google account.

Pantry & Shopping Data

This includes the grocery items you add (names, quantities, categories, storage locations, and expiry dates), shopping list items, and family group associations. Photos and receipts you capture are processed to extract product information.

Usage Data

We automatically collect certain device and usage information, such as device type, app version, and interaction events, to improve the Service.

Language Preference

We store your selected language preference to provide a localized app experience.

How We Use Your Data

To provide core pantry management features: adding, tracking, and organizing grocery items.
To generate AI-powered recipe suggestions based on your current pantry inventory.
To sync your pantry and shopping lists across devices and with family members you invite.
To send expiry alerts and reminders about items nearing their expiration dates.
To process premium subscription payments and manage your trial period.
To improve our features, troubleshoot issues, and enhance user experience.

Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with trusted service providers who help us operate the app:

Base44: Provides our hosting, database infrastructure, and backend services.
AI Providers: Process your pantry data to generate recipe suggestions and identify products from photos and barcodes. Data is sent to these providers only for the purpose of generating your requested results.
Payment Processor (Base44 Payments): Handles premium subscription transactions securely. We do not store your full payment card details.
Google: Used for Google Sign-In authentication.

Your pantry and shopping data is shared with family members you explicitly invite via invite codes. You control who joins your family group at all times.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted database storage, secure authentication tokens, and access controls. Pantry items are protected with row-level security so only you and your invited family members can access your data. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can manage your data directly within the app:

View and edit all pantry items at any time.
Delete individual items or your entire pantry inventory.
Leave or disband a family group to stop data sharing.
Delete your entire account and all associated data — including your pantry inventory, shopping lists, meal plans, health logs, saved recipes and favorites, and family groups — directly from the Settings menu. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

Children's Privacy

Kitchen Genie is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the updated policy within the app or by other communication methods. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
